So, I thought I would really miss having a glass of wine over a nice dinner with Mark or margaritas with the girls. I swear this is the truth though, I just don’t miss drinking alcohol. Like I haven’t once had the thought “man, I wish I could have a drink right now” (maybe that thought comes when I’m pregnant again and have a toddler running around?!!).
Because I still like the idea of “fun” drinks when celebrating or hanging out with friends, I enjoy playing around with different flavors and mixes of things to keep it lively.
If you’re looking to decrease your alcohol consumption, or you don’t drink alcohol, there is a whole world of festive non-alcoholic drink options out there– it’s actually a fun Pinterest search!
These are the recipes for my favorite happy hour drinks (pregnant girl style):
Minty Lime Spritzer:
Muddle a couple of mint leaves in the bottom of a glass.
Squeeze half a lime’s worth of lime juice directly into the same glass. (I also like to slice up the other half of the lime and put it in my glass!)
Pour in your favorite flavored seltzer water (mine is lime-flavored La Croix) and some crushed ice.
Stir and drink up!
(I did not create this recipe but I play around with different versions of it. It’s my favorite sangria recipe to date!)
2 cups boiling water
2 black tea bags (or 2 teaspoons loose-leaf tea in an infuser)
2 cinnamon sticks
1/2 cup sugar
3 cups pomegranate juice
1 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
1 orange, sliced into thin rounds
1 lemon, sliced into thin rounds
1 lime, sliced into thin rounds
1 apple, cored and cut into 1/2-inch chunks
3 cups carbonated water
Pour boiling water over tea bags and cinnamon sticks and steep for 5 minutes. Discard tea bags and stir in sugar to dissolve.
In a large jar or pitcher, combine tea, cinnamon sticks, pomegranate juice, orange juice, orange, lemon, lime, and apple. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour and preferably overnight.
Just before serving, stir in carbonated water. Serve in glasses over ice.
1 can of frozen peach concentrate
1 bottle of sparkling apple cider
1 pint of raspberries
Pour 1 tablespoon peach concentrate into each glass.
Fill a Champagne glass two-thirds full with sparkling cider.
Drop 2 raspberries into each Champagne flute and serve.

And…on the topic of alcohol, I’ve posted this before, but these are really fascinating. It goes to show that drinking alcohol really does affect your body and its functions:
…but, cheers to you if you happily drink your glass of wine. Do what makes you happy! 🙂
