If I were witty enough, I would subject you to a Waffle Wednesday joke…but instead, I’m going to present to you a very serious matter: the love that Hudson and I share for ‘Nanner Waffles.
First thing’s first, Hudson may look just like his dad and have extremely similar quirks as his dad, but his love for all things breakfast is ALL me!
Just like everyone else, the Bailey family is very busy in the mornings. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays we have to rush out the door with very little time to enjoy a nice meal together, so, I make a very big point to sit down and eat breakfast with Hudson on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Sometimes we sing songs, sometimes we read, sometimes we watch Beat Bugs, sometimes we talk…but it’s a really nice time for me to solely focus on him and enjoy our favorite meal together.Eggs, bacon, and waffles are his all-time favorite foods. I think if I kept putting them on his plate, he would keep eating them all day.
What’s the point of this blog post anyway?! I just want to share my (and Hudson’s) love for Van’s Gluten Free Blueberry Waffles with almond butter and sliced bananas. Aka: ‘Nanner Waffles. When Hudson was cutting his first teeth, someone suggested that I let him chew on a frozen waffle to ease some of his teething pain. While he wasn’t crazy about them in frozen form (he doesn’t like anything that is cold or hot– everything needs to be room temperature…), it gave me the idea of a a new food for him to try! I heated the waffles up, cut them into super small squares and dropped little pieces of banana slices onto the cut-up squares of waffle. He gobbled the waffle/banana up like he had never eaten before in his life. When we became old enough, I incorporated almond butter into the waffle/banana and a new favorite food was born. Nutrition is the biggest factor in what Mark and I choose to feed Hudson, so although nothing beats eggs for breakfast, I love that Van’s waffles come in gluten free varieties and are very low in sugar! This is the nutrition panel on our blueberry waffles:
Although scrambled eggs still rank up there as Hudson’s favorite food of all time, I’d have to say ‘Nanner Waffles are an extremely close second, if not a tie. The best part about them is that I actually feel good about him eating them! He gets a small dose of nutrients from the banana, some protein and healthy fat from the almond butter and is filled up with a gluten-free product that actually tastes good. (I also love that the banana naturally sweetens the waffle– Hudson hasn’t been introduced to maple syrup yet! 😉 )
Thank you, Van’s, for feeding us and helping us have awesome breakfasts together!
Happy Waffle Wednesday!
