One Year Old.

August 15, 2016

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!thenandnow2One year old?! ONE YEAR?????  I cannot believe you’ve been with us a whole year. It’s true what they say, it went by in the blink of an eye.

Reflecting back over the past year makes me feel so many emotions. It has been the most exciting, love-filled, challenging, tiring, fantastic year of my life. All thanks to you and your sweet, spunky personality. You’re my favorite.

We had such a great day celebrating you yesterday! Lots of family, some fun gifts, cool t-shirts (thanks Uncle Brooks!), food, and your new favorite thing: cake! It was so fun. You soaked up all of the attention and received your fair share of love! 🙂 DSC04763DSC04792DSC04886As always, it’s time to look back on this past month of your life and tell you all about the things you have been up to.

Let’s start with things you are loving:

-phones (you know how to press the home button and scroll up and down screens)

-silicone muffin liners

-splashing water (the tub, puddles, the pool– it doesn’t matter!)

-rough housing

– opening and closing all doors, drawers, and cabinets

– reading books DSC04864

You have really started communicating! You point to things, make facial expressions and make it abundantly clear when you like or don’t like something. You babble and sing all day long! You aren’t saying words just yet, but you act like you’re having a full-on conversation with us all the time!

You make the cutest “scrunchy” face and stick your bottom 2 teeth out when you’re being silly. You laugh and giggle and throw your head back when you laugh.13895362_10100916278392849_2703062834790565753_nYou go to bed at 8pm and you usually will sleep until 5:30 or 6am without making a peep. When you wake up, I pick you up and nurse you back to sleep. You then will sleep until about 7 AM. I know you aren’t quite ready to drop that nursing session, because we have tried to skip it, and you just cry, cry, cry until I feed you.

As far as other nursing sessions go.. you still nurse when you wake up (as mentioned above), sometimes before your afternoon nap, and before you go to sleep. You’re basically only nursing for comfort now though as you take “sips” more than actual gulps like you used to. You eat three main meals (of real food) every day and have lots of snacks. Milk, in any form, just doesn’t interest you too much anymore. You will sometimes take a sippy cup of a mix of my milk and cow’s milk.. but usually you just prefer food. It’s weird that I have gone from nursing you 5-6 times a day to roughly 2 times a day…and we’re working on weaning more over the next month! You are really growing up!

On the topic of food.. you are still loving most things you try. You basically eat whatever we are eating. You LOVE eggs, turkey, yogurt, and veggie straws more than any other foods. You do really well at feeding yourself but aren’t sure how to use a spoon. FullSizeRender 5 copyYou drink lots of water out of your sippy cup!

You have quite a few teeth coming in, all at once– at least 2 that I can see!

You are trying to figure out walking, but haven’t been able to do it on your own. You are practically running, though, when someone is assisting you with their fingers. You are always wanting to stand up and will use whatever prop you can in order to do so. You still have your funny crawl and cute scoot. I am sure you will be running around in no time! You are always on the move and into everything! IMG_1846You also attended your first Jaguar game (and loved it!) and painted your first work of art…you couldn’t believe that I was letting you make a mess! Ha!IMG_2080IMG_2038It has been a fun month. It has been an amazing year. Thank you for coming into my life and making me a mom. I never knew how incredible life could be until I had you. You’re the best. I love you, oh so much.
