Recommendations

Because I get asked about these things day in and day out: here’s anything and everything I recommend and personally use every day in my daily life.

Although I am an affiliate with some of these companies, I completely stand by all of these recommendations as products I use, take, and participate in myself.

My Website

WP Engine: Looking to start a blog of your own? I totally recommend WP Engine. My husband moved me over to them after using a cheap host for a few years. The difference I’ve noticed in the speed of my site is incredible! In case you were wondering, The Funky Fork is built on WordPress.org.

Hemlock Theme by Solo Pine Designs: While exploring Themeforest.net, my husband and I fell in love with this theme created by Solo Pine Designs called Hemlock. After a few small customizations to Funky Fork-ify it, we were ready to go live. I highly recommend purchasing a quality theme and doing it right the first time around. There is a difference between the free and pay themes!

Health & Wellness

WellnessFX: blood and biomarker testing for improved athletic performance, identification of health risk factors, and improved energy, sleep and weight loss

ThorneFX Lab Testing: Specific testing for: wellness complete, sex hormone balance, thyroid function, nutrient deficiency, cardiovascular risk, blood sugar management

Supplements

I believe everyone should take a quality fish oil supplement, drink a warm mug of magnesium before heading to bed, drop some good Vitamin D into their mouths, and pop some quality selenium, folinic acid (notice I did not say folic!), B12 supplements, and K2 supplements.

ALWAYS consult your physician and do TONS of research before supplementing with anything!!

Here are the exact brands I take:

Additional supplements that I highly recommend if needed:

Protein:

I’m not the biggest protein powder fan in the world– I would much rather eat my protein. However, on days when I need to supplement, here’s what I use and also recommend to ALL of my clients:

(whey-based) SFH Pure (also sold at GO HQ!)

(non whey-based) Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides (the benefits of this supplement far outweigh additional protein in your diet–read up on it! It’s amazing!)

Apparel/Footwear

Apparel:

I live in lululemon athletica

(I feel that lululemon clothing runs small so I size up from my normal sizes on almost everything. Full disclosure and point of reference: I’m 5 feet, 6.5 in tall. I weigh exactly 128 lbs and my measurements are 34-26-35. I generally wear a size 4 or 6 regular in lululemon clothing- bottoms and tops)

These are my lululemon staples:

wunder unders

speed shorts

power y tank

free to be bra

scuba hoodie

bang buster headband

no show run socks

I love soft, flowy fabrics, so Montiel’s Harper tank and James Perse’s Ribbed Knit Tank are some other favorites!

Other companies with good stuff that I like: Lorna Jane, Reebok, Splits59

Shoes:

CrossFit/Circuit Training: Reebok CrossFit Nano

Running: Asics Gel-Kayano or Saucony (I have a narrow foot with a high arch so I’m picky about running shoes!)

Running errands/coaching/casual: Reebok Skyscapes or Converses or TOMS

Body/Face/Hair Care

I do my best to use the most natural and gentle products possible. I am constantly checking the environmental working group’s website to make sure products’ are as good as they seem.

Body:

Everyone body lotion (I love the coconut lemon scent!!)

I use Organic Brown Sugar as a skin scrub in the shower and keep my skin moisturized by shaving with coconut oil

I use Tom’s Natural Deodorant in the cooler months and Dove deodorant in the sweatier months

Face:

Repair Aloe-E Skin Salve (amazing for dry and/or damaged skin!)

Vitamin C Serum 20% w/ Coq10, Ferulic Acid & E (the only serum I’ve found that actually brightens my skin!)

Christine Moss Naturals Facewash (my favorite face wash in the world!

Thayers Alcohol-Free Witch Hazel Toner with Aloe Vera (Always use a toner to clean those pores! This stuff is incredible!)

Bee Friendly Eye Moisturizer

I apply Neem Oil as needed on breakouts

I use Burt’s Bees Facial Towelettes to wipe sweat off my face immediately following a workout (I’ve found this to be one of the best ways I’ve been able to prevent breakouts– don’t let sweat dry on your face!)

Makeup:

Dr. T’s Supergoop CC Cream

Smashbox Under Eye Brightener

RMS “Un” Cover Up

Pure Pigmented Mascara

Jane Iredale Loose Powder

Long-Lasting Eyeliner

Jane Iredale Blush

Jane Iredale Bronzer

Hair:

I shampoo my hair roughly every other day. If I shampoo it more than that it gets ultra dry and wire-y.

It’s soooooo not natural and totally made of chemicals, but I mix good, ole’ school Shimmer Lights with Moroccan Oil Shampoo to keep my highlights fresh and hair moisturized.

I condition with Moroccan Oil Repair Conditioner and deep condition once per week with Moroccan Oil Intense Hydrating Mask.

If I don’t have time to shower after a workout and have somewhere to be, I use Acure Organic Shampoo Powder and smooth my ends with Argan Oil.
